Campylobacter

Campylobacteriosis is a bacterial disease caused by Campylobacter jejuni, an organism that lives in the intestinal tract of many animals.

The signs of this disease are diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain and fever. The illness typically lasts one week.

It is worse in the very young and the very old. Many infections are silent with no symptoms at all.

Most people become infected by handling or eating raw poultry. Occasionally it is spread through contact with the wastes of pet dogs and cats.
