Viral Encephalitis

Eastern, Western and St. Louis encephalitis are passed to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain. Horses also suffer from these diseases but they are dead end hosts that do not pass the infection on.

The reservoir animals for these viruses are migratory water birds.
