Family Pet

Children may love animals, big and small, but sometimes the family pet can cause severe health problems for children with asthma.

For many children with asthma, touching an animal, or being in the same room as a pet, can trigger an allergic reaction. Classic symptoms of allergy include sneezing, runny nose and eyes, itchy nose and eyes, coughing and wheezing.

It is essential for children with asthma to know if they are allergic, and to take steps to get rid of the allergen.

Allergic signs and symptoms are simply a reaction to an animal’s dander (skin scales or flakes from the fur or feathers or an animal’s saliva or urine).
