Knitting Needles, 1 pair No. 5.
Gauge: 5 sts - 1 inch.
Starting at face edge with Amethyst, cast on 100 sts. Work 3 rows of k 1, p 1 ribbing.
Now work in stripe pattern as follows:
1st and 2nd rows: Purl.
3rd row-wrong side:
Knit. 4fh row: Purl.
5th and 6th rows:
Knit. Repeat these 6 rows for stripe pattern. Drop Amethyst, attach Green.
Note: Carry Amethyst loosely along side edge; break off each color when stripe is completed.
7th row: With Green, decreasing 5 sts evenly spaced, p across- 95 sts. Next 5 rows: With Green repeat 2nd through 6th row. Break off Green, pick up Amethyst.
I3th row: With Amethyst repeat 7th row - 90 sts.
Next 5 rows: Repeat 2nd through 6th row. Drop Amethyst, attach Rose.
19th row: With Rose, decreasing 6 sts evenly spaced, p across - 84 sts,
Next 5 rows: With Rose repeat 2nd through 6th row. Break off Rose, pick up Amethyst. 25th row: With Amethyst repeat
19th row - 78 sts.
Next 5 rows: Repeat 2nd through 6th row.
Drop Amethyst, attach Green.
31st row; With Green repeat
19th row - 72 sts.
Next 5 rows: With Green repeat 2nd through 6th row. Break off Green, pick up Amethyst.
37th row: With Amethyst, decreasing 8 sts evenly spaced, p across - 64 sts.
Next 5 rows: Repeat 2nd through 6th row. Drop Amethyst, attach Rose.
43rd row: With Rose, decreasing 8 sts evenly spaced, p across - 56 sts.
Next 5 rows: With Rose repeat 2nd through 6th tow. Break off Rose, pick up Amethyst.
49th row: With Amethyst repeat 43rd row - 48 sts.
Next 5 rows: Repeat 2nd through 6th row. Drop Amethyst, attach Green.
55th row: With Green repeat 43rd row - 40 sts.
Next 5 rows: With Green repeat 2nd through 6th tow. Break off Green.
Pick up Amethyst.
61 st row: With Amethyst repeat
43rd row - 32 sts. Next row: P across. Following row: Decreasing 8 sts evenly spaced, k across - 24 sts. Repeat last 2 rows once more - 16 sts. Next row: P across.
Following row: K 2 tog across - 8 sts. Break off, leaving a 10-inch length of yarn. Thread this length into a needle, draw through remaining loops, pull up tightly and fasten securely.
Steam lightly, being careful not to stretch lengthwise. Sew back seam. Turn ribbing to wrong side and tack in place.
Braid Cut 33 strands of Rose each 27 inches long. Fold strands in half and tie at center with another strand. Divide strands evenly into 3 sections and braid.
Wind a strand of yarn 2J/2 inches from cut end tightly around braid and fasten securely. Trim. Sew folded end to top and tack braid in place as shown.
