Practice of Acupuncture in Other Countries
The Soviet Union has also been using and researching acupuncture since its renewed contact with the Chinese in the 1950s.
Since this time its use has increased steadily and, in 1972, acupuncture clinics were planned for all the major medical centres in the Soviet Union.
It is used not only for pain control but also for treating a wide variety of conditions including asthma, stomach ulcers, raised blood pressure and angina.
The practice of acupuncture has, of course, continued throughout the world in the many thriving expatriate Chinese communities.
Acupuncture is also becoming more firmly established in Australia with government recognition of training courses, and acceptance of registered practitioners by health insurance companies.
The place of acupuncture in many Far Eastern countries -such as Japan, Korea, and Malaysia - is similar to that in China itself.
