Patient Shows Good Spirit

If the patient shows 'good spirit', it usually indicates that the condition is not serious.

But it is also possible to have too much spirit - to move in an exaggerated way, to talk too much and in an excited manner - which may indicate an imbalance and suggest a Yang, or Excess state.

If this state is accompanied by other signs of weakness, it suggests a state of False Yang, which implies that the deeper Yin aspects of the body are depleted to such an extent that they can no longer control the Yang.
 
If the patient's face is pale, the skin lacks lustre, there is no shine to the eyes, and movements and responses are slow, the spirit (Shen) is weak, and there is a condition of Deficiency.
