Wind

Acute illnesses of sudden onset affecting the top of the body - the head and neck for example, such as influenza, coughs, and colds - are seen in Chinese terms as Wind attacking the Lungs, the organ most open to the exterior.

Specific points to 'expel the Wind' are used in such cases. At the same time, the defending Qi must have been weak to allow penetration and this is also strengthened to prevent recurrence.

External Wind is a relatively superficial phenomenon compared to Internal Wind, however. Here a situation arises where the Yin and Yang of the body grow dangerously out of balance, allowing Wind to develop.

This affects especially the Liver and very severe symptoms develop, such as blurred vision, vertigo, violent headaches, uncontrolled movements of the limbs, and difficulty speaking or walking.
