Pregnancy is not the Time to Lose Weight

Women who are overweight during pregnancy may experience more medical problems, such as hypertension (high blood pressure) and preeclampsia (hypertension and swelling caused by pregnancy).

Pregnancy is not the time to lose weight. Cutting down on calories can cause your body to burn fat stores, resulting in ketones (a byproduct of fat metabolism), which could be harmful to your baby.

Rather than dieting, try to limit your weight gain to about 15 pounds while you are pregnant. Keep your weight gain steady and vow to yourself that you'll drop the pounds after the baby is born.
