Back
Work as for Front.
Plastic Canvas Base
Cut 3 pieces, each 5" x 131/2" (12.5 x 34.5 cm), of plastic canvas and set 2 aside. From 3 rd piece, cut 2 pieces 5" x 21/2” (12.5 x 6.5 cm) and 2 pieces 5" x 1" (12.5 x 2.5 cm).
(These 4 pieces will be used to extend the pieces set aside.) Place one 5" x 131/2" (12.5 x 34.5 cm) piece next to one 5" x 21/2" (12.5 x 6.5 cm) piece. Place a 5" x 1" (12.5 x 2.5 cm) piece over the join to stop the join from bending.
Whipstitch the 2 layers together using buttonhole thread. Repeat for the 2nd Base. Lay one 5" x!6" (12.5 x 40.5 cm) Base over the other with the joins on opposite ends. Sew together at the corners.
Finishing
Bag
Sew Front to Back with an invisible seam along both side seams. Weave in ends.
Base
Sandwich the plastic canvas Base between the 2 knit Base pieces with right sides facing out. Whipstitch around edges using the 30" (76 cm) tail. Weave in ends.
Nylon Webbing
Cut 2 lengths, each 161/2" (42 cm) for topstitching over side seams; 2 lengths 43" (109cm) (one for top edge of Bag and one for Tool Belt base); and 2 lengths 15" (38 cm) for Handles. Apply a small amount of adhesive to cut edges to prevent raveling.
Sew the ends together on each 43" (109 cm) length with ½”(13 mm) seam allowance to form 2 closed loops. Pin the 161/2" (42 cm) lengths to side seams so that there is ½” (13 mm) extra on the bottom. Secure using buttonhole thread with running stitch spaced 1/4" (6 mm) apart.
Pin one piece of the 43" (109 cm) webbings around the top, easing to fit, and allowing the bound-off edge to show. Mark the 4 corners with pins. Center the Handles under the webbing on Front and Back 3" (7.5 cm) from corners. Sew around top edge to secure.
Cut 2 lengths 5" x 3/4" (12.5 cm x 19 mm) from plastic canvas leftovers. Insert under the webbing at the sides of the Bag. Sew across the lower edge of the webbing to encase. Sew 4 vertical lines across the webbing to secure. Whipstitch Base to the Bag on all 4 sides, matching corners with marks. Weave in ends.
Tool Belt
Cut 3 lengths 29" (74 cm) of ribbon for large needles; 3 lengths 26" (66 cm) for medium needles; 2 lengths 23" (58.5 cm) for small needles; 2 lengths 19" (43.5 cm) for double-pointed needles; and 2 lengths 10" (25.5 cm) for needle holders, tape measure, or small scissors.
Make a double 1/4" (6 mm) fold to finish the top and bottom of the ribbons. Fold ribbons in half (wrong sides together). Sew side seams on ribbons to form individual pockets.
Mark the 4 corners on the second 43" (109 cm) webbing. Pin the first long ribbon pocket on the long side of the webbing 1" (2.5 cm) from the first corner, and pin the next 5 ribbons 1" (2.5 cm) apart.
The tops of the pockets should line up with the top of the webbing. Apply the other 6 ribbon pockets to the other long side of the webbing, starting with the longest pocket and working down to the smallest ones.
Sew all the pockets to the webbing with a couple of backstitches to both sides of pocket at the top of the webbing. Pin the Tool Belt inside the Bag 3" (7.5 cm) from the top and match all corners.
Take care not to distort the direction of the knitting by pinning the webbing to the Bag between each ribbon pocket; check the Bag from the outside before you sew. Secure the Belt to the Bag with a few backstitches on the webbing between pockets and across the 5" (12.5 cm) of webbing at both sides.
