Meal Plan and Exercise Program
Taking a combination of medications and faithfully following your meal plan and exercise program may help delay the need for insulin therapy.
Over time, however, the pancreas of many people with type 2 diabetes stops producing insulin. At this point, they must inject insulin to control their blood-sugar levels.
Some people inject a small dose of insulin at bedtime while continuing to take their medication(s) during the day. While it's normal to fear needles, it may surprise you that the injections are relatively painless.
The insulin injection goes into the fat layer beneath your skin where there are fewer nerve endings, using very short and thin, fine-gauge needles.
Proper training on injection techniques will decrease your anxiety and discomfort, and will help you adapt to insulin therapy quite easily.
