Early Phases of Type 2 Diabetes

In the early phases of type 2 diabetes, the pancreas has a greater ability to make insulin than in the later stages.

Therefore, medications that stimulate the pancreas to make more insulin work better in people who have had diabetes for fewer than 10-15 years.

As years go by, insulin levels decline and it becomes necessary to supplement the insulin made by the pancreas with insulin injections.

Other possible explanations for rising blood-sugar levels include weight gain, a decline in your activity or exercise level, a change in your eating habits, taking your medication irregularly, illness, infection, or emotional stress.

Depending on your glucose level and other medical conditions, insulin may be needed, either temporarily or permanently.
