You Forget to Take a Dose
If you forget to take a dose and it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
There are some exceptions to this rule when taking certain diabetes medications. If you miss a dose of repaglinide (Prandin) or nateglinide (Starlix), taking the dose between meals could result in low blood-sugar reactions.
Therefore, you should not take a missed dose of repaglinide or nateglinide between scheduled mealtimes. These medications are to be taken at mealtime only.
If you miss a dose of acarbose (Precose) or miglitol (Glyset), you should resume your usual regimen at the next scheduled meal, since their action relies on slowing the absorption of high-starch foods.
Generally most of the medications used to treat type 2 diabetes can be taken on a full or empty stomach. However, there are some exceptions:
1. Acarbose (Precose) should be taken with the first bite of a meal for maximum benefit.
2.Metformin should be taken with meals to minimize stomach upset.
3. Replaglinide (Prandin) and nateglinide (Starlix) should be taken within 30 minutes of a meal for maximum benefit and to avoid low blood sugar.
