Chicken Toy

You makes a cute, cuddly toy for a baby

Any color 4 ply, worsted weight yarn. Use up your scraps. Only need a few yards for the chicken. Small amount of batting.

Knitting needles size 8
Cast on 30 sts
Row 1: Increase 1 st, K2, P2 across and increase 1 st in last st. (32 sts)
Rows 2: K2, P2 across.
Rows 3-5: Repeat row 2.
Rows 6-18: Knit.
Row 19: Cast off 10 sts, place 12 sts on holder, and cast off remaining 10 sts.
Row 20: Put the holder sts back onto your needles and knit.
Rows 21-31: Knit across.
Row 32: Cast off leaving a 12" tail of yarn.

Fold chicken in half width wise and stitch around seam .  Stuff lightly with batting and stitch across bottom to close seams.
Use black yarn and stitch an eye on each side of head, then use a small piece of orange yarn and stitch a tiny beak on the front of the face.. You also use red yarn and make loops of yarn on top of the head.  Any colors will do though.

Cozy (adapted pattern)

Any color 4 ply, worsted weight yarn. Use up your scraps. Only need a few yards for the chicken.
Knitting needles size 5
Cast on 30 sts
Row 1: Increase 1 st, K2, P2 across and increase 1 st in last st. (32 sts)
Rows 2: K2, P2 across.
Rows 3-5: Repeat row 2.
Rows 6-22: Knit.
Row 23: Cast off 10 sts, place 12 sts on holder, and cast off remaining 10 sts.
Row 24: Put the holder sts back onto your needles and knit.
Rows 25-35: Knit across.
Row 36: Cast off leaving a 12" tail of yarn.

Fold chicken in half width wise and stitch around seam to form egg-cozy.
Use black yarn and stitch an eye on each side of head, then use a small piece of orange yarn and stitch a tiny beak on the front of the face.. I also use red yarn and make loops of yarn on top of the head.  Any colors will do though.
