Crochet Slipper Boots

Directions are given for Shoe Size 6-8. 4 Ply ("Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins): 3 (4) ounces of Main Color and 1 (2) ounces of Contrasting Color.
Crochet Hook Size H.

GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch;
7 rows = 2 inches.

UPPER

Starting at center back with Main Color, ch 31 to measure 8 inches,
1st row—right side: Draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook—starting joint sc made; * ch 1, make a joint sc over next 2 ch. Repeat from * across—15 joint sc. Ch 2, turn.

2nd row: Working in back loop only of each st throughout, make a joint sc over 2nd ch from hook and first joint sc, * ch 1, make a joint sc over next ch and next joint sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row for pattern. Work in pattern until 10 rows in all have been completed. At end of last row, ch 14 (20) for Instep.

INSTEP AND TOE SHAPING
1st row: Make a starting joint sc over 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, (ch 1, joint sc over next 2 ch) 5 (8) times; * ch 1, joint sc over next ch and next joint sc. Repeat from * across—21 (24) joint sc. Ch 2, turn.

2nd row: Work in pattern across to within the turning chain, ch 1, draw up a loop in front and back loop of last sc used— 1 ch and 1 joint sc increased at toe end. Ch 2, turn.
3rd row: Work in pattern across. Ch 2, turn.
4th and 5th rows: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows: There are 23 (26) joint sc on 5th row.

For Size 8 ½-9 ½
Only: Next 2 rows: Work even in pattern. Ch 2, turn.
For All Sizes: Following row: Work in pattern across, omitting turning chain. Ch 1, turn. 

Next row: Skip first joint sc, work in pattern across—there are 1 ch and 1 joint sc less than on previous row. Ch 2, turn.
Following 2 rows: Repeat last 2 rows. There are 21 (24) joint sc on last row. Next row: Work in pattern across until 15 joint sc have been completed. Ch 2, turn.
Next rows: Work even in pattern. Ch 2, turn. At end of last row, break off and fasten. Sew back seam.

EDGING
1st rnd:
With right side facing, attach Main Color to top of seam, ch 1, make 33 (36) sc evenly spaced around top edge. Join with si st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining, * ch 3, dc in last sc made, skip 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last sc. Join. Break off and fasten.

SIDE 1st rnd: With right side facing and working around lower edge, attach Main Color to end st of last row, ch 1, sc in same place, make 15 sc across the end sts of next 10 rows, working across opposite side of starting chain of the instep, sc in next 13 (19) ch, make 13 (15) sc across the end sts of the instep rows, sc in back loop of next 13 (19) instep sts, make 16 sc across the end sts of next 10 rows. Join to first sc—71 (85) sc.

2nd rnd: Working in back loop only of each sc throughout, ch 1, sc in joining, sc in each sc to within the 11 sc at center front of toe, (2 sc in next sc—one sc in- creased; sc in next sc) 5 times; 2 sc in next sc, sc in each remaining sc—77 (91) sc. Join to first sc.
3rd rnd: Working in back loop only of each sc throughout, ch 1, sc in each sc around, increasing 2 sc across toe on Size 6-8 Only—79 (91) sc. Break off and fasten.
Hereafter work through both loops of each st.

SOLE 1st rnd: Attach Contrasting Color to joining, ch 1, sc in joining and in next sc, draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook— sc decreased; sc in next 30 (36) sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 7 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in next 30 (36) sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in last 2 sc. Join.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, skip joining, dc in next 3 sc, holding hack on hook the last loop of each dc, dc in next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook—1 dc decreased; dc in next 3 sc, h dc in next 4 sc, sc in next 5 (9) sc, h dc in next 3 (5) sc, dc in next 8 sc, dec 1 dc over next 2 sc, (dc in next 2 sc, dec 1 dc over next 2 sc) 4 times; dc in next 8 sc, h dc in next 3 (5) sc, sc in next 5 (9) sc, h dc in next 4 sc, dc in next 3 sc, dec 1 dc over next 2 sc, dc in last 3 sc. Join to top of ch-3.

3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in joining, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts) twice; sc in next 16 (22) sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts) 3 times; sc in next 16 (22) sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, dec 1 sc over next 2 sts) twice; sc in last st. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 1, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) 3 times; sc in next 17 (23) sc, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) 6 times; sc in next 17 (23) sc, (dec 1 sc over next2 sc) 3 times, Join. 5th rnd: Ch 1, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice; sc in next 16 (22) sc, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc),3 times; sc in next 16 (22) sc, (dec 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice. Join.

For Size 8 ½-9 ½
Only: Next row: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join. For All Sizes: Break off, leaving a 10-inch length of yarn. Thread this yarn into a needle and working in back loop only of each sc; sew a seam across center of sole.

CORD
With Contrasting Color, make a chain 26 inches long. Having free ends at outer side of boot, draw cord through sts just below edging and tie a knot at both ends. Tie in a bow.
Make other Slipper Boot in same way.
