Button-Up Sweater
Chill winter breezes won't bother your best friend when he is wearing this button-up sweater. Worked in classic cream, it will complement any color of fur. Use your choice of buttons to add a personal touch.
Yarn
3 (4: 5: 6: 9) 1 ¾ oz/50 g balls of Rowan All Seasons Cotton in cream/Organic 178
Needles and extras
Pair each of US 7 (4 ½ mm) and US 8 (5 mm) I knitting needles
5 (7: 9: 9: 12) x ¾ in diameter buttons
Gauge/Tension
24 sts and 25 rows to 4 in/10 cm over rib pattern using US 8 (5 mm) needles.
Sweater
Using US 7 (4 ½ mm) needles, cast on 98 (106: 122: 134: 162) sts.
Rib row 1 (RS) P2, *K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Rib row 2 K2, *P2, K2, rep from * to end. Change to US 8 (5 mm) needles.
Patt row 1 (buttonhole row) (RS) *P2, K2, rep from * to last 6 sts, P1, P2tog, yrn/yo twice, P2tog, P1.
Patt row 2 K2, [P1, K1] into double yrn/yo, K2, *P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Patt row 3 P2, *K2, P2, rep from * to end.
Patt row 4 K2, *P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Patt rows 5-10 Rep rows 3 and 4 three times.
Last 10 rows are repeated to form rib and buttonhole patt.
Work in rib and buttonhole patt until sweater measures approximately 5 ½ (5 ½ : 7: 8 ½ : 12) in/13.5 (13.5: 17.5: 21.5: 29.5) cm from cast-on edge, ending with a patt row 2.

Working on these 16 (24: 32: 36: 40) sts only and keeping patt correct throughout, cont as foil:

Rib row 1 (WS) K2, *P2, K2, rep from * to end.
Rib row 2 P2, *K2, P2, rep from * to end. Last 2 rows are repeated to form rib patt.
Work 1 row more in rib patt.
Buttonhole row P2, K2tog tbl, yf/yo twice, K2tog, patt to end.
Next row Patt to last 4 sts, [P1, K1] into double yf/yo, K2. Cont in rib patt, working a buttonhole row on every 10th row, until collar measures approximately 4 (6 ½ : 8 ½ : 10: 12) in/10 (17: 21: 26: 30) cm, ending with one row after a buttonhole row.
