Basic Styling Instructions

Here's a step-by-step guide that will help you set your shekel in a basic style — both sides feathered away from the face and the back blown under

1.Pin the sheitel to the Styrofoam r head using two T-pins, one at each ear piece.

2.Blow the middle top section towards the back by lifting the hair with a brush. Aim the blowdryer at the brush and have the heat follow the brush, as you lift the hair and bring it towards the back.

3.For added height, set this section in one large roller after blowing. Use a brush to lift the hair and position a roller beneath.

4. Brush and blow the bangs forward and under. The blow-dryer should follow the motion of the brush. Pin in place with a T-pin.

5. To achieve a feathered look, use a curling iron to curl the sides of the shekel away from the face. Form pin-curls and secure with a pin-curl clip. You can make a few pin-curls around the crown of the shekel.

6. Divide the remainder of the hair into three parts. Blow each section down, then under, and set with three separate rollers.

7. The finished set should look like the picture to the right. If possible, it is best to let the sheitel sit in rollers overnight before wearing (below).

NOTE: Always keep in mind that too much heat can harm a sheitel. Try to achieve the right look with minimal blowing. It helps to set the style in rollers while the hair still warm.

NOTE: I always tell my clients that once my job is done, their "homework" is to take care of their sheitel between wearings. All it takes to keep the style looking fresh is a nightly "prescription" of one pin-curl on each side and some velcro rollers at the bottom.

Some wigs may need a little boost once a week and some every night. A roller or two can really make a difference; sometimes they can give the impression that you just stepped straight out of the hairdresser!
