Soap Displays

Today, there are many craft shows, fairs, farmer's markets, and other venues that allow the home-based soap maker the opportunity to sell his or her wares.

To take full advantage of these sales opportunities, your display of soaps should be tidy and attractive, of course, but should also "announce" immediately that you are selling handcrafted soaps.

Displays that are straightforward in design, such as a single large box divided into compartments, will be much more effective than displays filled with many small containers.

Buyers can be confused when they're faced with a multitude of soap-filled baskets! A single box will allow you display your soaps in an organized fashion.

Before you design your display, list the types of soap you'll be selling and make note of their shapes and sizes. Then decide how to distinguish one type of soap from another if their shapes and colors are the same, how to price your products, and how to educate your customers as to the special characteristics of each type of soap.

Shown in the photo (above) is a simple, country-style display specifically designed for soaps. Unless you possess the skills to build your own display, you will need to consult with a craftsperson who can execute your design.

Before you make up your mind, talk with a few craftspeople; they often have valuable ideas to share, and they know the limitations of their craft much better than you do! Good luck selling!
