Sick-Day Meal Plan

Drink plenty of fluids—at least 4-6 ounces every hour. If you can't eat at your usual times, consume 15 grams of carbohydrates every hour to keep your blood sugar from dropping (see chart below).

These tips can help you handle sick days:
1. Sip clear liquids, such as apple juice, sports drinks, or regular soda, if you can't keep anything else down.

2. Use broth, vegetable juices, and sports drinks to replace potassium and sodium lost from diarrhea and vomiting.

3. Ask your registered dietitian (RD) for sick-day meal plans.
